Las autoridades de Chile modernizarán los protocolos de ciberseguridad del país después de que un grupo de ciberdelincuentes robase 10 millones de dólares (8,5 millones de euros) del Banco de Chile el pasado mes de mayo.
La medida ha sido adoptada por representantes del Ministerio de Hacienda, la Superintendencia de Bancos, el Banco Central y el regulador del mercado local después de lo que se supuso uno de los mayores ciberataques sufridos en la historia de la nación.
“Se van a revisar las mejores prácticas en materia de ciberseguridad para prevenir y responder frente a estos ataques”, ha indicado el ministro de Hacienda chileno, Felipe Larraín.
El 24 de mayo, un grupo de ciberdelincuentes atacó al Banco de Chile, la segunda mayor entidad financiera del país, y extrajo cerca de 10 millones de dólares, de los que una gran parte terminó en diversas cuentas en Hong Kong.
Durante el ciberataque, el Banco de Chile se vio obligado a desconectar unas 9.000 estaciones de trabajo en sus sucursales en un intento por frenar la propagación del virus, que habría servido de distracción para sustraer el botín.
Según un análisis forense de Microsoft, se trató de un ataque internacional sofisticado posiblemente proveniente de algún país de Europa del Este o Asia, tal y como ha explicado el Banco de Chile, controlado por la familia local Luksic y el estadounidense Citigroup.
Por otra parte, las autoridades han insistido en la necesidad de que el Congreso apruebe lo antes posible una nueva ley que permita contar con mejores herramientas y más capital para cubrir riesgos operacionales, incluidos los de ciberseguridad.
