Usualmente cuando queremos mirar algo en Youtube suele preocuparnos el seguimiento y vigilancia que esta plataforma podría ejercer sobre nuestro navegador web y dirección IP inyectando todas las cookies y código Javascript que le sea posible. Para solucionar ese problema, entre muchas otras opciones, aparece Invidious, el cual es un software libre y descentralizado que trabaja como proxy front-end indexando, registrando y mostrando vídeos y contenidos de Youtube. De esa manera, no necesitamos visitar la plataforma de Youtube directamente sino que ingresamos a la página web de algún nodo de Invidious en su lugar.
En consecuencia, podemos empoderarnos sobre las tecnologías que maneja y se ejecutan en nuestro navegador web y tomar el control minimizando el tráfico de ancho de banda, evadiendo el espionaje y vigilancia sin ejecutar el javascript y códigos privativos de Youtube. Entre otras opciones, también tenemos la posibilidad de descargar vídeos en varias calidades de imágen y audio, así como inyectarlos en otras páginas, crear listas de reproducción y guardar suscripciones sin tener una cuenta en Google. Para conocer algunos nodos de Invidious, favor de visitar la página web oficial del proyecto.
Ahora bien, en base a Invidious, nace Freetube, un cliente y reproductor de Invidious, y por tanto de Youtube, para escritorio, enfocado a la privacidad, multiplataforma, licenciado bajo AGPLv3, traducido en múltiples idiomas y con un diseño muy amigable para el usuario promedio, que se conecta a un nodo de Invidious por defecto o el que nosotros prefiramos, importando e incorporando así todas las mejoras y novedades que Invidious pueda ofrecer. Desde descargar vídeos en alta definición, convertirlos en audio de múltiples formatos, guardar localmente un historial de nuestros vídeos vistos, favoritos y suscritos, bloqueando el seguimiento, espionaje, rastreo, vigilancia, cookies y Javascript de Youtube y personalizar una interfaz totalmente a la medida de cada uno, hasta incluir la opción para torificar nuestra conexión, es decir tunelizarla dentro de TOR, anonimizando así nuestra identidad, dirección IP y ubicación geográfica en Internet, y todo esto sin llegar a conectarse a Youtube ni a Google jamás porque de eso se encarga el nodo de Invidious.
Para proceder a la instalación del mencionado en disputa podemos buscar en su página web oficial y/o su repositorio en Github donde se proveen los enlaces de descarga de binarios precompilados que permiten tanto ejecutar el software directamente de forma anidada como instalarlo en el equipo y también compilarlo desde el código fuente.
En el caso de Windows, podremos encontrar sus correspondientes medios de instalación en la página oficial del proyecto.
En caso de distribuciones GNU/Linux y derivadas:
- Debian GNU/Linux y derivadas:
